We have chosen to focus on detoxing the body for our January 2024 issue because after the festive season in December, many tend to eat and drink excessively with rich foods, sugar and lots of alcohol which at the time seems fun but can put pressure on the body function and have a negative impact on general health as well as moods because of the negative impact on gut health.
Another way to think of detoxing which is less harsh is to understand that detoxing is about cleansing the needed internal body parts so everything flows without contamination or blockage. It is about removing toxins from the mind or body to minimise as well as repair any harm. Healthy, clean eating (like a raw food diet or veganism (instead of eating processed foods and sugar) can aid mental and body health. Drinking too much alcohol and fizzy sugary drinks often dehydrate the mind and body which can contribute to developing dis-ease or dis-order, plus such products contribute to obesity, diabetes, low moods and fatigue.
In times of distress, if self doesn’t have a healthy relationship with food, it’s easy to over-eat, comfort eat and develop a relationship with food to deal with emotions, but doing this doesn’t actually help to maintain good health, especially when eating and drinking is done mindlessly.
Once a person knows self, then it is easier to understand what own needs are so that solutions are put in place to be best self.
For those who don’t understand detoxing, it may feel like a punishment because part of the process is about being consciously selective about food and drink ingested, as well as simplifying diet to achieve the most beneficial results. Thinking about detoxing as rejuvenating the mind and body is much appealing.
Detoxing is part of self-care and a great way to know and meet own needs as part of a healthier lifestyle. It also allows self to understand how mind and body feels before and after detox. Intermittent detoxing as needed allows own mind and body to be in a purer form.
What does food/drink diet detoxing involve? Depending on own needs, they are many different ways to detox/cleanse own body to operate at a higher frequency. An inner body detox usually involves eating fruits, vegetables, tailored juicing, spring or alkaline water, whilst avoiding caffeine, meat, dairy and wheat which bloat the body and cause blockage. Detoxes also come in many forms such as:
– Fasting (eating fewer meals at particular times of day which are calorie controlled).
– Focused diets that contain certain foods and drinks to cleanse or boost body needs like a high fibre diet to aid constipation issues.
– Juice diets using purified water to clean out any toxins and restore vitamins to body systems.
Detoxing the mind can restore higher energy levels, evoke a positive mindset and relax the mind for better sleep.
What does mind detoxing involve? There are many ways to rebalance own mind such as interacting with less media, simplifying life, spending time with self to understand own needs, meditation to be present instead of think about past or future and to remove any energies from life that are not uplifting, supportive or loving.
It’s important to have a consultation with a professional detox practitioner, as well as supported guidance as to how to detox to complement own needs.
